Abstract

The article highlights different periods in the formation of “method” problems in the Institute of Sociology, which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2018. Particular attention is paid to the coordinating and advisory activities of the subdivision (Department), the main assignment of which is linked to the methodology and methods of empirical research. It is demonstrated that the experience accumulated at the Department has not lost its relevance in current realities. In addition, a number of problems in the “method” field are updated in the context of contemporary challenges, and the interpretation of “qualitative homogeneity” as a methodological problem of empirical sociology, in particular. The expediency of addressing various aspects of “method” problems in the jubilee year is determined by the situation of founding the Federal Research Sociological Center (FNITs), for the successful operation of which new forms of professional activity are apparently required, taking into account the experience of the Soviet period.
