Abstract

Despite of general tendency of reducing rural population in Russia in some regions there is another situation. The article raises the question about conservation of rural population. It presents an attempt to understand why rural population in Khakassia remains relatively stable? There are several factors influening the generation of rural population of Khakass region. Among them: migration (especially cross-regional), natality, traditional way of life of the indigenous population, high natural growth, administrative and territorial reforms, expansion of suburban areas, regional policy for the development of rural territories. Local politics of the development of villages restrains the migration from the countryside. The development of suburban areas can increase the rural population soon.
