Abstract

The role of the state is discussed in the development of sociology in France after 1945, in the institutionalization of this discipline, favouring the creation of research groups, research centres and laboratories. The state also contributed to the financing of sociology in the country through research contracts, which contributed to the emergence of the figure of the expert in public organizations and the involvement of sociologists in various policy areas.
