Abstract

The question of the quality of life belongs to the most popular topics that are touched upon in the social sciences, this category, is often seen as one of the main elements of assessment and comparisons between countries, regions and cities. The authors of the article consider this issue in the key to clarify the relationship between the subjective quality of life and the resources of social capital, such as: trust, social networks, values and norms, and the extent to which they affect the quality of life of people in the cities studied. Thus, the aim is to study the dependence in satisfaction with the quality of life between its economic and social parameters. The presented analysis is based on a study conducted by an international group of sociologists in 2012-2013, within the framework of the project "The Revival of Postindustrial Peripheral Cities". The project was implemented by respondents from five cities in Central and Eastern Europe - Panevezys (Lithuania), Lodz (Poland), Ivanovo (Russia), Miskolc (Hungary) and the Turkish city of Adapazari.
