Abstract

Based on a comparative analysis of the content of two fundamental editions published in 2018: the collective monography «Military Sociology: Theory and Practice of Research» and a textbook for military universities «Military Sociology», conclusions are drawn on the current state and prospects for the development of Russian military sociology as a special branch of sociological knowledge. Both achievements and shortcomings of the Russian military sociology in the development of theoretical and methodological foundations and empirical and methodical research technologies are discussed. Departmentalized model of its development, lack of professional personnel training system and disregard for foreign experience are noted as problematic areas. Possible ways of overcoming the shortcomings and progressive development of this sociology branch are outlined.
