Abstract

The article touches upon a difficult and crucial period in the history not only of Russian sociology, but also of the country: the period after the Russian Revolution of 1917. Under conditions of a new ideology formation, the work of many scholars and publishing houses was interrupted. Many manuscripts of scientific works have not been published, as evidenced by historical facts and the results of scientific research. Work in the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art (RGALI) has made it possible to identify a lost manuscript of Nikolai I. Kareev «William Godwin and his “Political Justice”: An Essay on the History of Anarchism». The article presents an analysis of the main provisions of Kareev’s work in connection with the preparation for publication of the full text of the manuscript. The need for this is dictated not only by the reconstruction of the history of Russian sociology, but also by the urgency of studying and rethinking its intellectual traditions. In addition, the article draws the attention of readers to the name of the forerunner of anarchism – William Godwin – and his scientific heritage.
