Pre-Pensioners’ Employment Trajectories Under Conditions of Rising Retirement Age

In the article the results of sociological survey, directed to description of pre-pensioners’ employment trajectories in the situation of retirement age’ increase, are under consideration. To reveal the employment trajectories the sociological survey was conducted in Yaroslavl region in November-December, 2019. The men and women of pre-retirement age were questioned (n = 696). To identify the employment trajectories by means of the method of logical rectangle the respondents’ answers to the following questions were generalized: 1) are pre-pensioners ready to make efforts to keep their working place or find a new one; 2) what exactly they are ready to do in order to preserve their employment (to attend additional educational courses, professional retraining, to raise professional qualification); 3) did the respondents take part in the programs of professional retraining. It is established, that pre-pensioners follow five employment trajectories: active changes, support of status quo, the forced changes, refusal of changes. The separate category constitutes the so-called “undetermined pre-pensioners” who do not demonstrate the strategies of adaptation. It is revealed that 21% of pre-pensioners actualized the trajectories of active or forced changes to keep their further employment, including changes by means of participation in the programs of professional retraining, tutorship. At the same time, the majority of respondents (58,5%) are not inclined to adapt themselves to the changing socio-economic circumstances, dealing with the retirement age increase, and chose the trajectory of refusal from changes. The factors, which influence the choice of employment trajectory, are fixed: readiness to be employed after the retirement age, their awareness of rights and privileges for the citizens of pre-pension age. This is firm stated, that the willingness to active changes in the situation of retirement age’ increase, is demonstrated by the respondents 1) who intend to keep employment after retirement; 2) who are knowledgeable about details of pension reform. The trajectories of employment, which presuppose active and forced changes, prefer to realize the pre-pensioners who belong to the categories “director” and “specialist” in the spheres of medicine, social services, education, professional, scientific and technical activities.
