Abstract

Using the data from the “Russia Longitudinal Monitoring Survey – Higher School of Economics” (RLMS-HSE) as a foundation, this article analyzes the main trends in the evolution of Russian people’s social wellbeing in relation to the social adaptation processes prevalent in post-Soviet Russia. Its main focus is to study the dynamics of several key characteristics of social wellbeing, which not only reveals the direction and nature of changes in attitudes at various stages of post-Soviet reformation, but also helps broaden our perspective when it comes to the scope of the Russian people’s adaptation to life in an evolving society. It reveals that the transition to a new reality did not coincide with any significant shifts in social wellbeing characteristics, while the stability achieved in recent years appears to be fragile and ripe with internal contradictions in a situation of crisis and uncertainty.
