The article reveals the content of theoretical, theoretical, methodological and practical features of the historical knowledge in the context of phenomenological sociology. Considered a knowledge formation, contextual background of various theoretical trends emergence, basic concepts and categories of sociological studies of historical knowledge, the peculiarities of interaction of historical knowledge and society. We introduce the way of how and with what mechanisms ideas about the past social reality are formed, how these representations of the past influence the reality of the present; how historical knowledge becomes an increasingly powerful resource and a factor of society governance. It is shown that knowledge is often considered to be confusion and imagination, false assertions and beliefs. This article focuses on the idea of social construction of historical knowledge and its application in terms of social influence. Considered are the problems of legislative impact on historical knowledge by means of “memory laws” that can, so author, block desire to expand and deepen knowledge.
