Russian society today is characterized by instability of the social and political system and crisis of values system. Surely this situation has affected young people. In these circumstances, young people are dose to the identity crisis which can lead to social exclusion. According to sociological empirical research civil identity occupies a leading position among the identity of Russian students. But there is also another trend. Over the past few years the number of students who hold cosmopolitan views significantly increased. Also, there is a tendency of decreasing significance of national and territorial identity. Authors emphasize that students realize that patriotism means not only love of Motherland but work for the good of the country. But only a third of the students can call themselves true patriots. Civic identity has a significant impact on social activity of young people. Students, who consider themselves citizens, are more likely to respect the laws and vote in the elections. The successful national development of Russian society in the future is impossible without active citizenship of young people. This fact determines the necessity of measures of civil-Patriotic education of youth. And the University has a special role in this process.
