Based on the data of in-depth interviews with families of Chinese migrants (N = 33), the authors identify and describe the situation of mixing gender roles in the process of their adaptation. It is shown that a small but stable community of Chinese migrants has now formed, focused on long-term residence and work in Russia. In these families, women combine traditional female roles with earning money, and also perform an important communicative and diplomatic function. It is women who are responsible for contact with others, both at the formal level related to business or solving everyday problems, and at the informal level, maintaining communication in friendly networks. The implementation of the so-called diplomatic function makes the role of women in the process of adaptation of Chinese migrants decisive.
